I just flew in to New York from Salt Lake City to start another stint of working. I feel so so so much better! I had a couple of weeks off in California and Utah and feel very well rested. I moved all my stuff into my new apartment, not just the basement, but the APARTMENT! Yes! I now have a home of my own with MY things and ALL my clothes hanging in the closet. I've decided I'm going to give Utah a try for awhile so will be spending more time there and less travelling. . . pretend like I'm normal and stationary. You know, fake it til you make it.
What does that have to do with Austin City Limits? Everything. Austin City Limits is a 3 Day music festivel; friday, saturday, sunday. My Saturday, although hazily enjoyable, was practically ruined because I was so exhausted! Despite this, and maybe despite other things, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Here are the bands I saw friday:
1. Joseph Arthur
2. Pete Yorn
3. The National
4. Queens of the Stone Age
5. LCD Sound system
6. a little of Bjork (which was a mistake, I should've seen a LOT of Bjork)
7. Killers
Bands I THINK I saw saturday
1. Cold War Kids
2. Clap Your HAnds Say Yeah
3. Andrew Bird
4. Something Something and the lets go out tonights or something like that.(forgot name, will fill it in when I remember)
5. A LITTLE of Arcade Fire
6. A LITTLE of Muse
Bands I saw Sunday:
1. Ben Kweller
2. Bloc Party
3. My Morning Jacket
4. Bob Dylan
Best bands? 1. joseph Arthur
2. queens of the stone age (even though I have seen them before)
3. Cold War Kids
Cold War Kids were good but not instantly spectacular. What made them one of my favorites was that I awoke the next morning with their songs lingering in my head complete with post concert visions. This is amazing since I saw them on Saturday, my stoner day.
Saturday I went home early I was so tired. I thought Arcade Fire sucked and then went over to see Muse. They sucked too so I went home. Actually it was I that sucked because I just saw Arcade Fire in SLC and they are an excellent band live, excellent. I still am not in love with their music but will go to a show any time.
Bob Dylan was exactly as I expected. He played almost all songs from his new album and was cool and rickety. He played like a Rolling Stone and the whole Park grounds sighed. There is an amazing group warmth when people are witnessing a legend. I am glad I saw the legend. I probably won´t go see him again.
Regrets: I did not see Wilco and I did not see Lucinda Williams. They were both on the last day, Sunday. Lucinda Williams was during Bloc Party and Wilco was during My Morning Jacket. The thing is, we had such a good spot to see Bob because we saw all the bands that played before him on the same stage: Bloc Party, My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan. That´s just how it goes.
This entry is unusual. I dont usually give reports. I think my blog is being polluted by reading other peoples blogs and its losing its originality. But that does not make me so sad. Perhaps new music will be found by those that read this entry. That´s just how it goes.
So it goes.
